Summary: L needs a vacation; Light just needs a reality check.
"So now that we've found Higuchi and confiscated that book, that means that we can have some vacation time now, right?"
Everyone rolled their eyes at Matsuda's wishful thinking, except for L, who, as per usual, looked like he had something on his mind. "Hmmm. Maybe Matsuda has a point. After all, we have all been working very hard, and it is a possibility that we could be so wrapped up in the case that we might have missed something right under our noses. Perhaps I should take your advice and go on vacation, and come back to the investigation with a renewed insight."
I see what he's doing! He still has his suspicions about me, only now that the rest of the team can't possibly back him up, he's up against the wall. So he's going to run away, is he? How predictable...
"And after all, I have enjoyed my time in Tokyo, but I have hardly gotten to see any of Japan at all. I've heard that Nagano is particularly beautiful this time of year. I would like to go somewhere quiet and peaceful, where I can think..."
As if a little distance could save you. Really, is that what you think of me? I'm almost insulted. I'm still going to kill you; this just means that it might actually almost be a challenge.
"Or maybe I should avoid cities altogether for a while. I could visit the temples in Kyoto, no cell phone, no computer, just a week or two of meditation... I think I would like that."
So you're going off the grid? Good luck with that. Unlike you, I don't need to rely on technology to track down who I'm looking for. Run to the ends of the earth, I'll still find you. It will still come down to you and me, and it looks like that's going to mean me...
"Yes, I think I should like this. I hope it will be alright if I don't answer calls for a few days? Watari can handle any emergencies, if necessary. Of course you'll understand that my travel arrangements will be kept confidential... oh, and if no one minds, I've never travelled with a friend before. So I would like to take Light-kun with me, expenses paid, of course."
You can't keep anything confidential from me, L. Not anymore. You'll never get away from me, no matter how hard you try, you'll never escape...
