Leverage, "Chattering," gen humor ficlet, PG

Title: "Chattering"
Fandom: Leverage
Pairing: gen team!fic with some vague Parker/Hardison leanings
Rating: PG
Summary: In which Alec does not approve of Boston weather, Parker loves soft furry things, and Eliot lays down the law.
AN: From a comment prompt from [personal profile] arathesane calling for "Parker, Hardison and Eliot, and winter hats." She wanted silly. I have no problem with silly.

Alec liked to have clear start and end dates for phases in his life -- he'd go a little crazy sometimes trying to pinpoint the moment when he'd first realized something, or when a situation had become more or less official. No such handwringing over when the team had really become a team, though -- that was definitely the day when he'd first noticed that Sophie had started offering her costumes from past jobs (she insisted on calling them her "wardrobe") to Parker. Mostly Parker sort of stared at them and played with the sequins for a few minutes, and they were never seen again. The giant fuzzy hat of doom from the ski lodge job, though -- that one became a favorite. He was pretty sure he'd seen Parker actually petting it when she thought nobody was looking, like Spock in "The Trouble With Tribbles."

Alec and Eliot had exchanged the look over that one that meant forget it, it's just Parker being Parker. But now, waiting outside the bank for the security guard shift to change, Alec was starting to look at the big furry thing a little differently. Like, jealously. Parker looked warm and toasty doing her yoga stretches against the back wall, while he was hunched over the screen of his PDA feeling like his ears were maybe considering falling off.

Eliot's voice over the comm, muttering from inside the building: "Hardison, can I seriously hear your teeth chattering?"

"No."

"Well, whatever I'm hearing, cut it out. It's distracting."

Parker giggled, and Alec rolled his eyes. Everyone's a critic. It wasn't his fault accuweather.com had lied to him. The DDOS attack they were going to get hit with as soon as this job was over... yeah, that one would be his fault. Kind of.

"I still hear chattering," Eliot's voice practically growled.

"It's not his fault," Parker hissed, "he's just got that hoodie on. Poor thing."

"Okay, then, give him your hat."

"What?" Parker and Alec practically yelped at the same time.

"Parker, give Hardison your hat. You won't be able to get in the air vent with it anyway. And I won't have to listen to any more damn chattering."

"Take good care of it," said Parker as she solemnly carried the hat over to where Alec was sitting, and tugged it down over his ears (careful not to dislodge the comm).

"I won't feed it after midnight," Alec deadpanned, and the puzzled look on her face was almost worth the one he was going to get when Eliot actually saw him like this. "Next job I'm staying in the heated van, okay?"

"Mmm," Parker replied, tilting her head to both sides and sort of frowning at him. "I think next job you should go undercover as someone... Russian."
