Woah, now I have a deep and abiding need to read Eagle. He is highly relevant to my interests! Especially since, if I am inferring the cultural politics correctly, a lot of what the manga deals with is the interrelationship between race, representation, and production of power?
Re. Chekov and Sulu - you know what would be awesome? Is if Sulu knows about the crush, downplays it, because he also knows Sulu is still really a baby and yeah, the scandal - but it's still kind of an ego boost, and he tries to be kind to the kid. And when election night hits and everyone is all triumphant and partying, that's when Chekov is all choked with emotion, happy, but bittersweet because his visa expires soon and his parents are expecting him home - and he finds a drunk on success (and possibly champagne) Sulu and smacks one on him before running back to Russia, and Sulu is startled, bemused at first, and months go by, and he still can't get that quick soft press of lips against his out of his head... Because I like it when the unrequitedness gets flipped, yo. It suits my need for dramatic irony.
Re. injecting Scotty - how about the bus breaks down? Middle of nowhere town, and the only mechanic is an oddball Scotsman who gets them running again in next to no time, and will accept as payment transport to the next big city because it's like he's been banished to an ice planet, there's so little life out here - and while on the bus he like, fixes up the laptops' network security, maybe finds a bug transmitting to the sneaky underhanded rival candidate (Nero? I forget, did you mention him before? Sorry, my brain is a sieve) and figures out a way to send a feedback loop to really make Nero's ears bleed, and he and Jim bond, you know, until Jim's turning his baby blues to Spock saying, "Please, can we keep him?" Et voila they have a genius technician/mechanic/computer specialist/engineer with them on the road to smooth all the technological speed bumps the campaign hurls their way up to and beyond a small still hidden in the back of the bus.
Ahaha, okay, I'll stop now. I'm sorry, I see people's fic-in-progress that I love, and I have this insane need to like, throw ideas at them to see if any stick. (My Psych fandom bffs will attest to this.) Feel free to use or discard at will.
